Brooklyn Buildz: Master Terms & Studio Policies
Welcome to the lab. To ensure a safe, creative, and professional environment for all builders in our Industry City studio, the following policies apply to all participants, members, and visitors.
1. Safety & Liability Waiver
Scale modeling is an art form involving the use of precision tools, including sharp nippers, hobby knives, sanding sticks, specialized paints and materials.
Protocol: All participants must strictly adhere to the safety instructions provided by the Lead Instructor.
Liability: By entering Studio 2 and participating in any session, you agree to release Brooklyn Buildz, its staff, and the facility from any liability for personal injury or property damage resulting from standard modeling activities.
Conduct: Misuse of tools or failure to follow safety protocols will result in immediate suspension from the session without a refund.
2. Respiratory Health & Environment
Our studio utilizes professional-grade modeling supplies, including acrylic paints, paint solvents, solvent-based adhesives, and airbrushing equipment.
Ventilation and Safety Equipment: We utilize a high-end airbrush station capable of removing odors from feet away, OSHA standard 3M respiratory mask and high-capacity air filtration to maintain a clean environment to protect students and visitors from exposure.
Health Notice: These materials may pose risks to individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions (e.g., asthma, severe allergies). Participants (or guardians) acknowledge they have assessed their health and consulted a physician if necessary. Brooklyn Buildz is not responsible for respiratory reactions arising from exposure to standard modeling materials.
3. Membership & Flexible Billing
Our "No-Strings" Policy We believe building models should be a stress-free experience. At Brooklyn Buildz, you are never locked into a "subscription trap."
Self-Service Management: You can manage, pause, or cancel your membership at any time without sending an email or jumping through hoops. Simply click the "Manage Subscription" link found at the bottom of your initial Square receipt or any of your monthly billing emails.
72-Hour Inventory Request: Because we operate with a strict 8-bench limit and prep custom model kits and supplies in advance, we kindly ask that you process any cancellations or pauses at least three (3) days before your next billing date. This helps us ensure we don't over-order inventory and allows us to offer the bench to another builder on our waitlist.
Billing Cycle: Monthly subscriptions for Youth Mech Labs and Adult Open Build Labs are billed on a recurring 30-day cycle starting from your date of purchase.
Refunds: To keep our lab accessible and sustainable, we do not provide partial refunds or credits for mid-month cancellations. Your membership will remain active until the end of your current billing period.
4. Attendance & Bench Inventory
Because bench space is strictly limited to 8 builders per session, your reservation is a commitment of studio resources.
Cancellations: You must provide at least 48 hours notice to receive a rescheduling credit.
No-Shows: Cancellations made within the 48-hour window or no-shows forfeit the value of that session.
Private Events: The 50% initial deposit is non-refundable but may be applied to a future date if rescheduled with 14 days' notice.
5. Personal Property & Tools (Adult Labs)
Adult builders are welcome to bring their own kits and specialized tools.
Responsibility: Brooklyn Buildz is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of any personal property brought into the studio.
Abandoned Property: Any model kits or personal projects left in the studio for more than thirty (30) days following the conclusion of a membership or workshop will be considered abandoned and may be disposed of or recycled.
6. Media & Promotional Release
We take pride in our community’s masterpieces. We reserve the right to capture photographs or video of studio participation and completed models for promotional use (social media, website, and marketing).
Opt-Out: If you wish to opt-out of media coverage, please notify the instructor in writing prior to your first session.
7. Studio Conduct
Brooklyn Buildz is a professional, collaborative creative space. We maintain zero tolerance for disruptive, disrespectful, or intentionally unsafe behavior. We reserve the right to terminate service immediately for conduct violations without a refund.
8. Private Event Booking & Deposit Policy
Payment Structure: Private event bookings require a non-refundable deposit of $350 paid on the date of booking. The remaining balance of $400 (completing the $750 total) is due in full on the date of the event.
1. Private Event Cancellations & Rescheduling
Standard Bookings (More than 14 Days Out): Clients may cancel their event for a full refund of the deposit within 7 days of their initial booking date. After these 7 days have passed, the deposit is non-refundable.
Short-Notice Bookings (14 Days or Less Out): If an event is booked 14 days or fewer prior to the scheduled event date, the standard 7-day cancellation grace period does not apply. The $350 deposit becomes non-refundable immediately upon payment. This policy is strictly enforced because the deposit is instantly utilized to procure model kits, specialty materials, and event supplies required to fulfill the booking on a condensed timeframe.
Rescheduling Window: All clients may reschedule their event to a new date without penalty, provided they give at least 3 days' written notice before the scheduled event start time.
Late Notice & No-Shows: If a client requests a reschedule less than 3 days before the event, or fails to show up within 15 minutes of the start time, the event is canceled and the $350 deposit is permanently forfeited.
Individual Guest Absence ("The Friend Bail" Policy): We understand that individual group members may experience last-minute emergencies. If one (1) guest from your private party is unable to attend and cancels within the 24-hour window or goes a no-show, Brooklyn Buildz will issue a refund equivalent to that single person's seat value ($50) to the event organizer. This courtesy is strictly limited to a maximum of one guest per event; any additional absent guests will not be credited or refunded.
2. Immediate Deposit Forfeiture & Event Termination The $350 booking deposit will be immediately forfeited, and the event may be terminated without refund, under any of the following conditions:
Safety Violations: If guests touch restricted machinery, bypass workspace safety guards, or refuse to wear required personal protective equipment (like ventilation masks or eye protection).
Overcrowding: If the group sneaks in more than the strict maximum limit of 8 guests and refuses to have the extra people leave the studio.
Illegal Activity / Drugs: If any illegal substances or underage drinking are discovered inside the studio premises.
Intoxication Risk: If guests arrive visibly drunk or high, creating an immediate safety hazard around the studio's precision tools (like hobby knives, nippers, and airbrushes).
